First edition, second printing hardcover copy of High Conquest: The Story of Mountaineering by James Ramsey Ullman (J. B. Lippincott, 1941). With sixth printing dust jacket, now protected in archival sleeve. A history of mountain climbing and conquest of some of the iconic peaks of the world, as seen by Ullman in the early to mid 20th century. By the author of Banner in the Sky. Moderate to heavy wear to jacket including chipping, creases, tears and some spotty discoloration to spine. Blemishes to boards with corners and spine ends bumped and moderate wear to bottom edge. Partially removed ex-libris sticker on front endpaper, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. Several instances of split binding throughout and binding is weak on the whole, though all pages remain attached. See photos for condition.
